How to create a hive account using Leofinance

Notice: This post is outdated and pending a review and thorough update, please visit here for a precise method of creating a hive account.

There are numerous ways to create a hive account, an existing user can create an account for anyone by paying a fee(usually small), but this tutorial is based upon a free method that is not only free, but flexible, thus easy, and fast.

We will be using what is called “Leofinance Twitter Sign Up”

It typically means using Twitter as a verification bridge to create a hive account via Leofinance, the channel to hive blockchain

Don’t know what Leofinance is? Well, not anymore, see this comprehensive coverage of what Leofinance is.

Introduction

Since we will need Twitter to verify, you’re going to need a Twitter account if you don’t already have one, but if you do, then let's get to the next step.

Go to leofinance.io and click on get started at the top right corner of the screen. Note that you only have to create one account and I'll show you how to generate your keys so that you can use them to log in to other interfaces on hive like games or just community platforms.

Logging into Leofinance

Typically, the next thing you should see is a pop-up showing you the available options to create an account. This tutorial is focused on using Twitter to sign up, but if you wish to use your mobile number, click on the first option, if Facebook, then the last but for the sake of understanding how to use your keys to log in, stick around with us.

So, click on "Sign up with Twitter" to proceed.

Creating a Hive account with leofinance

You will see a pop-up to choose your username, typically, usernames must be at least 4 letters long and must be in lowercase. Numbers can be added but the only accepted symbol to include is an underscore. Pick a username of your choice, it will also be your address to receive cryptocurrencies and you can't use a name already taken by another.

Click on "Dialog Register" and you will see a Twitter prompt to authorize Leofinance, usually if your Twitter account isn't logged in via the web, you'll need to log in. Once done, click on "authorize" and you will be redirected to Leofinance, and congratulations, once the site and all on-screen program is done loading, your account has been created and logged in via your Twitter-connected account automatically.

But that's not all, keys, remember?

Typically, you can begin to use Leofinance but you won't be able to perform monetary transactions unless you log out and log back in using your "active key", It is also recommended to immediately download and store your keys safely.

Accessing Leofinance Wallet

To get your keys, go to your wallet section by clicking on the dropdown menu by your profile name at the top right corner.

Downloading Hive blockchain keys

To get your keys, simply click on the key symbol displayed on the screen, and your key will be downloaded and saved to your computer or mobile as a file. For the sake of readers here who wish to use their keys to log in to hive.blog and not Leofinance, we will be switching to hive.blog website but for the record, it all is the same process from here.

Backing Up hive keys

This is what your keys will look like, we will be using posting and active key, please note that only the letters and numbers are your keys, the symbols aren't. Also, you are to use your "posting" key not "postingPubkey", the same thing applies to others when needed to log in, transact or decrypt information. To understand the purpose of all the keys, see this post.

For the sake of this tutorial, the posting key enables you to publish textual transactions to the chain, that is posts or articles and comments. If not logged in with it, you can't. Active key allows you to make monetary transactions with your account.

Moving on.

Logging into Hive blog

Coming to hive.blog, we can see how the interface is different, typically this is where you see all the posts published to the hive blockchain including posts on Leofinance as it is built on top of hive. However, only posts published on the leofinance website or via hive.blog with the "leofinance tag" will reflect there, this is because leofinance is a designated platform for finance and cryptocurrency-related content, without publishing on their platform, your posts cannot be there.

Now, back to logging in, click on "Login" to proceed.

Using Hive Signer to log into Hive blog

This will pop up. They are numerous services to sign in to hive, but we will be using Hivesigner for this tutorial, more educational coverage of what they all are and how they work will be published soon and linked here, come back and check from time to time.

So, click on "hivesigner" at the bottom.

Adding account to hive signer

You will be directed here, now, what you have to do is input your username and your posting key in the field provided above. You may decide to leave the box below checked so that your keys will be encrypted and you don't have to keep copying and pasting keys to log in everytime.

Click "continue" when done.

creating a hive signer password

You will be told to create a password. This password is typically for your device. It doesn't exactly apply to your hive account directly. If forgotten, you can easily delete your account from hivesigner and add it again with a new password.

However, use something not easily forgotten. While doing all of this, google or whatever browser you're using may show you a prompt to save passwords to the site. Careful, if you see this prompt while adding your keys, don't save it, but if you see it while creating a password, you can in case you forget it, plus it makes it easy to log in. It is also important to note that your keys were already encrypted, which is safe.

So, once done, click on "Continue"

Authorizing Hive signer to log in

You will see this message, notice that the "continue" button is red and there's a message above talking about your active key. So, you typically have to redo the process but with active key this time.

So. click on "continue".

Signing into hive with Hive signer password

You will be back here with your username and hivesigner password already filled in, click on "add account" and redo all the processes discussed above, that is put your username but with active key this time, create a hivesigner password, use the same password as before and then, once that is done, see below.

Approving hive signer to log into hive blog

If you have down everything correctly, you will see this, now the button is green with "authorize" written, meaning you're close to done, just two more clicks away.

Click on "authorize"

Easily logging into hive blog

Once you click on authorize, you will see this page, click on "continue to hive.blog" and you will be redirected to hive.blog where you can now start your blogging and earning journey, cheers.
