About Anatoly Yakovenko

Anatoly Yakovenko is the CEO and Co-founder of Solana , the public blockchain  platform with smart contract  functionality and the first to make use of the Proof Of History (PoH) Consensus.

Anatoly Yakovenko has always been tech-savvy, he started coding when he was a teen with the C programming language and it was the first programming language he learned and got accustomed to, and even started building Solana with the C programming language.

Anatoly Yakovenko is a Russian-born software developer, engineer, entrepreneur and computer scientist rumored to be born in the late 1970s. Anatoly Yakovenko is popularly known as a Co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Solana Blockchain.

Anatoly Yakovenko immigrated from the former Soviet Union, where Ukraine is now to the United States in the 1990s, 1999 he joined the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Public research university in Urbana and Champaign, Illinois, United States, where he studied to be a computer scientist.

Four years later in 2003 he graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science and moved to California to reside. While still in school he started his first company which was a VOIP service provider called Alescere, however after graduation he shut down the company before moving to California.

After graduating from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign he moved to San Francisco Bay Area, California, and got a job as an Engineer at Qualcomm.

Qualcomm  is an American multinational corporation that owns patents to multiple wireless technologies including 5G and 4G.

While working at Qualcomm he led a team that was pivotal in developing operating systems in the company.

He is recorded to have also worked for Dropbox  and Mesosphere  as a software engineer. Anatoly Yakovenko has also been said to be amongst the brains behind multiple technologies like;

The first phone 3D camera, virtual and augmented reality products, and various operating systems for mobile devices including the first Tango Phone device.

Anatoly Yakovenko started writing the code for the Solana Blockchain using C programming language after proposing its architectural framework in a white paper published in November 2017.

This was sometime after he heard about Bitcoin  and subsequently realized how decentralization and the Blockchain industry would enhance various technologies.

Following the advice of one of his friends who eventually became a Co-founder, he started rewriting the code with the Rust programming language and eventually fully adopted the Rust programming language.

The Solana Blockchain was launched on March 16, 2020, by Anatoly Yakovenko along with four other co-founders as a Blockchain made for mass adoption because of its increased throughput and speed.

The Solana Blockchain has since then grown to become a multi-billion dollar network with a total value locked (TVL)  of $4.066 Billion according to DefiLlama .

Anatoly Yakovenko is the pioneer developer and author of the Proof Of History (PoH)  Consensus mechanism he specifically developed for the Solana Blockchain.

The proof of history was designed to enhance throughput in Blockchain and Anatoly Yakovenko explained that most Blockchains are slower because of congested transactions.

This is further caused by the asynchronous or unsynchronized timestamps due to the different time zones of Validators  in the Blockchain.

The difference in these timestamps needs to be confirmed and cross-checked by validators before validating a transaction and this makes everything slower.

The Proof-Of-History (PoH) consensus mechanism created by Anatoly Yakovenko eliminates the need for this confirmation or cross-checking as the whole Blockchain uses a synchronous or uniform timestamp, thus making transactions faster and increasing throughput.
