Gavin James Wood, mostly called Gavin Wood is English-born Computer Scientist and philanthropist known best as one of the original authors of Ethereum  and its first Chief Executive Officer (CEO), he is also the Founder and Creator of Polkadot ; a network of heterogeneous blockchains called parachains and parathreads.

Gavin Wood started his professional career by working, more specifically consulting, for Microsoft. While at the company he made pivotal progress on technical aspects of embedded domain-specific languages.

Gavin Wood came across the Blockchain  industry and the cryptocurrency market in 2011 when he first read about Bitcoin. In his words, nothing about the technology excited him as it seemed to be more about the currency than the technology itself. 

Three years later, Gavin Wood came across Bitcoin again but this time it was from a different perspective as he realized the various ways it would improve technology and one of his favorites; Game Theories.

Through a mutual friend, Gavin Wood met Vitalik Buterin and since then he has been a serial developer and technology-based designer with hundreds of practical technologies to his name. The term "Web3 " is accredited to him as he's said to have been the one to coin the term in 2014.

He is the pioneering idea behind the Solidity programming language having proposed the idea in August 2014. In 2007 he designed and implemented the first C++ language workbench, Martta.
